National Forest
Poppy Wood, off Breach Lane Melbourne, was officially opened on Saturday November 17 2007.
There is a layby for parking on Breach Lane when the main car park is locked.
The National Forest Company has changed 66 acres of arable land into attractive woodland. The plot features six demonstration areas where different species of trees are grown to show their potential for timber throughout the forest. Interpretation boards explain how trees are grown, harvested and used. There are also picnic tables and benches.
Expect to spend a pleasant half hour to hour here. However the paths here can be linked together with other local ones to make a much longer day out.
